HELP! mCPX won't take off

I bound it to a DX6i with settings from the manual. I visually checked the blade pitch at mid throttle and both blades are horizontal. So this means it is at zero pitch at mid-throttle, right? With all switches flipped to 0, I raised the throttle but it just increased the blade speed without taking off. I can see the blade pitch changing as I increased the throttle. Even at full throttle, it will not take off. What else am I missing?

If I flipped the GEAR switch to FL MODE, it took off like a bad-out-of-hell. Is there a mCPx take-off guide for dummies, I mean newbies? I did the usual route of mcx2, 120SR and now the mCPx. Thanks.
